Charles F. (Charlie) Blass

  Charlie Blass retired (August 2015) as Director of Strategy and Planning for Teledyne Brown Engineering (TBE), Inc. in Huntsville, AL. He was responsible for facilitating strategic planning system activities at the executive level.  Joining Teledyne over 43 years ago in 1972, he previously served as Director of Process Management and Deputy Director for Safety and Product Assurance for TBE.

 

  Charlie serves as the Board Chairman for Leadership Greater Huntsville (LGH) and has been on the Board for the past 8 years. Charlie is a graduate of the LGH Flagship Class 23, Focus 17, Masters 7, along with Program Chair and Day Chair responsibilities for the Leadership Management Academy classes over the past 12 years

     

   He is currently Chairman of the Board for the Baldrige-based Alabama Performance Excellence Award administered by UAB for the state of Alabama, and has been a Senior Examiner and Team Leader for over 20 years.

 

  Blass was certified as a NASA Lean and Six Sigma Black Belt, via their Continuous Process Improvement Program in 2008.

 

  Blass received the first NASA Flight Safety Awareness Award given by NASA following the Challenger accident.  Presented by NASA Astronaut “Hoot” Gibson, the award reads “Presented in appreciation for your significant direct contribution to manned space flight safety.”

 

  Charlie began his consulting company in December 2015.  The Blass Leadership And Strategic Solutions (B.L.A.S.S.), LLC company specializes in Strategic Direction Planning and business improvement for small to medium size organizations in the Southeast.

 

  Charlie is a product of the Huntsville City Schools System (Whitesburg Junior High and Huntsville High School) and the University of Alabama Huntsville and has been a resident of Huntsville for the past 55 years.

 

   Charlie has 2 grown sons, Todd and Cory, and is married to Kim Williams, a native Huntsvillian, who works for Teledyne Brown Engineering.
